No, “the great one” in this picture isn’t Denali in Alaska, but our very own Mount Blanc. With its 4,810 meters of altitude, this is the highest peak in continental Europe. Together with my colleagues of “L’Altro Versante” project, on December 2016 I’ve organized a photo mission in the Aosta Valley in order to photograph this wonderful mountain from the glacier which crosses the Italian-French border, “la Mer de Glace” at more than 3,500 meters asl. Upon our arrival it was utterly cold and the mountain covered in fog, around us only snow and ice. When at sunset, the clouds finally parted and the mountain revealed itself, I could finally witness the beauty of the southern face and all the peaks which have lured who has made the history of alpinism.
